NGC 4565 Edge on Spiral Galaxy

NGC 4565 is very large edge on spiral galaxy located in the constellation Coma Berenices. This view is similar to the way we view our own galaxy, the Milky Way. It was discovered by William Herschel in 1785. This galaxy lies over 30 million light-years away from Earth. One light year is the distance it takes light to travel in 1 calendar year, it is equal to 6 trillion miles. It takes the light from our sun approximately 8 minutes to reach earth.
