Steve Lindsey

I first became interested in astronomy as a young child when received a small cardboard tube Newtonian telescope. I remember taking it out in the backyard and looking at the moon for the first time through a telescope. I did the standard GASP!! I was struck with awe and unbelief at all of the detail and wonder of this celestial body that suddenly seemed so near. This was within a year or 2 of the first Apollo moon walk after which I wondered how anyone could not be somewhat fascinated by astronomy. I also remember a children's introduction to astronomy book I had and how I marveled at all of the Steve and Equipmentartists paintings of what was known of the universe at that time. Little did I imagine then that I would image real deep sky objects myself one day as a hobbyist with ability the professionals could only do at that time.

I think the idea of long exposure color photography of these celestial wonders captured my imagination more than any other aspect of astronomy. It allows me to combine my interest in astronomy with the ability to draw the beauty and majesty of the universe out in a way that can't be otherwise experienced visually. It is also an unusual and difficult hobby with many levels and challenges. I love the adventure of an outing to a dark site in a distant and remote location to engage in something I am passionate about. It takes me far away from the daily grind of my "day job".

My job consists of managing a department of systems engineers that develop communications electronics for commercial and government satellites at Boeing Satellite Systems. My educational background is in electrical engineering, I hold a bachelors degree from the University of Southern California and masters degree from Loyola Marymount University.

I came to know the Lord when I was about 14 years old through my widowed grandmother who I did yard work for on the weekends. ItImage by Steve always struck me that she was so full of life and purpose even though she had lived alone for many years. She loved nature (had an incredible yard, dogs, ducks, turtles etc.) and had a passionate faith in God. She often told me Bible stories and about other peoples faith experiences learning to follow Jesus. At that time I did not have a personal experience with God, but started reading the Bible and searching. Finally in college, God brought several Christians into my life to allow me to learn about a dynamic and personal walk with the Lord. I am so grateful for His blessings on every area of my life and family. I have become especially thankful he has restored some of my childhood joy through this wonderful avocation of astrophotography. May my images and efforts remind us all of our humble place in His glorious creation and hopefully bring joy to Him as well.
